4 Months Old!

I can hardly believe that our little Myah is 4 months old! I took her to the doctor last week and she was weighing in at 12 lbs. 7 oz. (30%) and was 24 in. long (50%). Looking at her percentage you would think she is skinny, but she definitely is sporting the cute baby rolls (why that can't be cute when we get big I don't know!). She is the biggest smiler in the world and sometimes her smile is so huge you think her head might just explode! She is such a joy to have around. She is napping really well during the day and has started getting up once in the night again (she was sleeping through the night for about a month---not quite sure what happened, but I guess I can't complain about a once a night feeding.). She has rolled from her tummy to her back a couple of times and she is just starting to grasp a rattle or toy. It is fun to watch her learn and develop, but I am in no hurry for her to grow up. I wish she could stay this way for a while, but since I know they grow up way to fast I am just trying to enjoy every stage! The other day when I went to the doctor I had decided to only get a couple of her shots...she just acted funny at her 2 month check up and I was a little worried. I told the doc that I would get a couple of shots that day and be back in a month for the other two. I really didn't think that would be a big deal, but boy did I get a tongue lashing! He was very passionate that she get all of her shots on time and wasn't willing to think outside the box at ALL. I was a little disappointed, because I had previously been very happy with him. I stuck to my guns and felt really good about my decision but that wasn't before he had me in tears. I am just curious if any of you have had the same experience? I am a believer in vaccinations and don't want to make this a controversial post, I think it is a personal decision that isn't the same for everyone, but I think a doctor should be a little more supportive, after all I was planning on getting her all of her shots, I just felt like for her she should not get them all in one day. Oh the joys of being a mom! I swear if there isn't one thing to worry about than there is another! (or maybe I am just a worry wart....I probably am!)

I have had the same reponse from my doctor. I don't know what to feel anymore. With my first 2 kids (I have 3) I jsut did whatever, but I have heard so much stuff I am scared. I do feel like it is everyones own decision and it is hard when you feel like the doctor isn't going to support your feelings as a mother. I think we are more intune with our children and I feel like we should have the right to our own decision within reason. But I have left my doctors office feeling the same way but I didn't stand my ground like you did. But I haven't been back for her 18 month shots. I am at a loss for what to do.

Tina, Do you have a blog? I would love to read it if you do. Your profile doesn't have an address. If you do leave it under my comment or email me at chase.family@msn.com. I would love to see what your cute family looks like as well!

LOVE that picture of her. She is so cute. About the Dr. experience - I was talking to my mom tonight (she has been a pediatric nurse for 30 years) and asked her if there was any reason splitting them was a problem. She said not really, the only problem is that sometimes moms forget to bring them back for the second set and then they get off schedule (which is a bit of a hassle, but not really a problem). She also said that years ago they routinely split them up but that since vaccinations are better now and children don't usually get very sick from them, they don't do it as often. So, if she is someone who gets sick from them it might help. It seems like the doctor could have talked you through it a bit more politely! Anyway, I hope she does/did better with this set of them. Stories like that make me feel grateful that my aunt is my pediatrician - it's worth the extra drive to Logan to get special attention from her!

I just read a book on vaccinations that is pro-vaccine, but sometimes against getting them all at the same time. I think it's a bit weird that your doc was upset about you wanting to spread them out a bit. The Academy of Pediatricians has recommended windows of time for getting the vaccines, not a set DAY for getting them. Sorry that was your experience. Stick to your guns, mama! She's your baby.
